Welcome to my new blog, The Good Life. I've wanted to write this for the past 20 years to share our experiences of putting into reality the TV series from the 80’s. In 2002, my husband and I decided to move to France. To up sticks and take our two-year-old on the biggest adventure of our lives.
It’s the first time I’ve ever done something like this. But I’m hoping to put out at least a post every couple of weeks, based on the different aspects of living here. Mostly chronological with the odd ’guess what’ thrown in too.
When we first floated the idea in the cosy Cotswolds, UK, we received varied reactions from family and friends: “You’re mad!”, “Gosh, how courageous”, “Have you thought this through?”, “Why?”...
Our reasoning was always the same:
- To escape the 24/7 rat race that the UK had become by 2000.
- To give our children the same free childhoods we’d experienced in the '70s.
- To enjoy more sunshine.
- And to afford a place of our own.
For all these reasons, we would do it all again—perhaps just a bit more prepared the second time around. Despite our naivety and passion, we’re still here, still creating and shaping our dreams, and now watching our grown children start to make similar choices.
If you’re thinking of moving, have just moved, or moved a while ago and need confirmation that you’re not alone, or just enjoy reading about life in France then I hope you enjoy this blog. I aim to share and provide insights on living in France based on our real experiences. We've navigated life’s unpredictability in a foreign land for over twenty years and want others to know that it’s okay to cry, laugh out loud, struggle, and how to truly appreciate every little step—because, after all, that’s what the journey is all about!
Nice, stoked to hear how it went for those kiddos growing up. Thanks for posting up, and welcome (though I'm new here too, figuring it out as well).
Looking forward to reading your posts. It sounds like a great adventure.
